The fading of a pure gold ring who should bear this responsibility
1350 2024-06-26
A few days ago, the news that a consumer bought a gold ring from jewelry store and it faded in less than two months attracted the attention and heated discussion of many citizens:

Elizabeth from Singapore broke the news: She bought a pure gold ring from jewelry store in early February. More than a month later, the ring showed grayish-white spots, as if a small piece of gold film had fallen off.

Elizabeth said: "I haven‘t worn it too many times, and I usually take off the ring when I put on makeup and wash my face to avoid damage to the ring by cosmetics or toiletries."   Elizabeth said that other jewelry she used daily had no similar problems, which made her suspect that she had bought a fake.

The reporter followed Elizabeth to jewelry store, and Ms. Jessica, the sales manager, responded that the fading of the ring was a normal oxidation phenomenon and there was no quality problem. "We can guarantee that this is a real pure gold ring. The reason for the fading may be that the ring was stained with skin care products or other chemicals and oxidized."

After Ms. Jessica polished the ring on the spot, the original silver-white area was reduced, but it was still clearly visible. Ms. Jessica proposed a solution: "Because this pure gold ring is hollow, we cannot conduct a fire test on site. If you are not a professional, it is easy to damage the shape of the ring. It can be sent back to the headquarters factory for renovation."

Ms. Elizabeth  could not accept the store‘s explanation, so she sent the ring to the testing agency for identification the next day.
In response to Ms. Elizabeth‘s questioning, Jewelry store relevant person in charge responded that after the NGTC test, the test result of this ring was pure gold.

Many citizens said: Pure gold can also change color. I thought that as long as gold jewelry changes color, it is fake or has quality problems.

In fact, there are many reasons for the discoloration of gold jewelry. Sometimes it may just be because it is dirty and it is time to "rub mud". keep in a good jewelry box will avoid this too .
